I sometimes forget that there is a world outside of laundry, making meals, cleaning up meals, playing legos, and drawing with sidewalk chalk...and ignoring housework... I think if I spend too much time with children under the age of 5 I begin to act as if I myself am a toddler. No good. Needless to say any chance I get to take a break and recharge I go for it!
I must admit at first I wasn't too excited to spend the weekend watching sweaty guys rolling around in singlets. There is just something missing from the sport. A net...a raquet...a ball... hum...nope just two guys and a ref is all that is required. Well, I wasn't a fan of the sport until the 'Battle of the Bone' (Great name, huh? It's the rival dual meet between two local high schools) this year. Since Ben loves the sport and is now on the coaching staff at University High School I've been to more wrestling matches this year than the rest of my life combined...I'd previously been to a total of 4. Anyway, I've come to appreciate that this wrestling is one tough sport. I can't really tell you what all is required to be a good wrestler, but from what I can see it takes a lot of hard work. So, I've come to appreciate the sport. Good thing to embrace it now since it will be a part of my life as long as Ben is around (hopefully forever!).
Enough rambling, here are the pictures!
This year was way better since we were actually with the team!
(Angie, Amy and me)
Angie has a boy David's age. You know what that means? Wrestling partner! Which is kinda cool since Ben can take David to the off-season practices and David has someone to play with.
Minor detail...
It was great to get out and do something fun! The trip was so fun! I made a new friend, Angie, who so kindly drove us there! We talked and talked even though we had just met. Her husband later admitted he wasn't worred about us driving the 5 hours on our first time meeting each other. He said we could both "talk to a rock". I also remembered how to knit on the trip. I made Lucy a little scarf. Not that she needs it, but it was a quick project! It was pretty cool to bring up a knitting tutorial on YouTube on my cell phone while we were in the car on the way for a refresher! How awesome is technology!?
Now it's back to life, back to reality. I feel like a better person though. It was great to let the kids have time with their grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. They like it when we leave. I guess I'm not as fun as Dallan who takes them to Dairy Queen for cones and then to the Pet Store during nap time. Geez, I am so boring!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've come to appreciate wrestling, I had to do the same a few years back when Phil started wrestling and Chris is a ref, oh yeah and I'm not sure if you know this about me, but once at GJHS I was the wrestling MANAGER! (just to check out the boys of course). funny huh. did Ben go to U-high? isn't it wierd cheering for U-High-our RIVAL??? I'm not sure I could do it-especially if CV was there:)
ReplyDeletelove ya.
Maggie, yes you right- gotta enjoy each day!
ReplyDeleteMegan, so glad you were once a manager. That's awesome. BTW, Chris was the ref at Battle of the Bone this year. He's a real good ref!
