Frugal Living Series! Part 2: Dishwashing Detergent

Recipe for Dishwasher Soap

Mix and use per dishwasher load:

1 Tablespoon Borax

(UPDATE) 1 Tablespoon of your favorite dishwashing detergent

1 Tablespoon Baking soda

OR

Mix equal parts Borax, Fav Dish Detergent and Baking Soda, and add 2 Tablespoons per load. Increase proportion of soda for hard water. Use vinegar in the rinse cycle.

I read here about making my own dishwasher detergent.

Since I was halfway through my box of (phosphate free) detergent I thought I'd try out this recipe (equal parts Borax and Baking Soda) and use it as an extender. I had Borax left over from making the laundry detergent and luckily I had enough baking soda too! I felt so resourceful making my own detergent with stuff I already had!

I really dig using the vinegar as the rinse agent. Before I made my own detergent I started using vinegar as the pre-wash and the nasty spots on the bottom of our glass cups went away! I love it! Now, I use vinegar as the pre-wash and the rinse agent!

Let me know if anyone tries it out!!
This is WAY easier to make than laundry soap!!
Have fun with it!
